Mental disorders are one of the leading causes of disability and one of the greatest contributors to the overall global burden of disease worldwide. Recent research, including my own, shows that exposure to stressful events during critical periods of development, like puberty and adolescence, can induce or increase the lifelong likelihood of mood disorders, such as depression. My research tries to understand why adolescents are more vulnerable to psychological dysfunctions using male and female mice models. The role of folic acid on neurological function over the lifespan

Folic acid is a B-vitamin that is mostly obtained from our diet. It is well known for its role in the closure of the neural tube, which forms the brain and spinal cord. This talk will cover how folic acid is involved in neurodevelopment, brain function after birth, as well as long term effects including the aging process.
