Spring is here and with it, many birds and insects also arrive to our yards. If you look closely, they bring more than fun sounds. After these talks, you won’t look to them the same way as before.

Bees gone wild

Jason Gibbs (Assistant Professor Department of Entomology University of Manitoba )
Wild bees are diverse and beautiful insects whose lives share limited resemblance to managed honey bees. The diversity of wild bees will be highlighted to illustrate their many forms and life histories.

Avian Flying Zoos – Biodiversity on the Wing

Terry D. Galloway ( Ph.D. (University of Manitoba) Professor and Acting Head)
When most of us watch the birds at our feeders, looking for worms in the
yard, or flying overhead, we don’t realize that these birds may be home to
an entire ecosystem of parasitic organisms, from viruses to worms, to lice,
fleas, mites, ticks and flies. It is my intention to explore with you the
biodiversity of parasites that is found on the outside of the bodies of birds,
hidden among the feathers. I promise you’ll be amazed.
