A long time ago in a galaxy very, very nearby..

Pauline Barmby (Associate professor, Department of Physics & Astronomy, Western University)
We wouldn’t be here without the Milky Way galaxy! Sure, the
Sun provides the energy to grow our food and the plants that
make our oxygen, but the Milky Way provided the elements
needed to make the Sun, the Earth, and everything around
us. Galaxies like the Milky Way are complicated systems
and I’ll tell you what astronomers have learned about how
they work and came to be.

The Stellar Detective: Solving the mystery of massive star formation

Parshati Patel (Astrophyscist/Science Communicator/Outreach Program Coordinator, Centre for Planetary Science and Exploration, Western University)
Stars come in different colors, sizes and have a life cycle just like humans. Massive stars are interesting as they live short yet eventful lives. Young stars inherit disk of gas and dust during their formation phase, where planets like Earth eventually form. Let’s walk through the journey of uncovering the mysteries of massive star formation using the
understanding of the formation of disks and light we receive
from these stars.
