What a biomaterial is and how it may fix your heart

The damage that happens after a heart attack can be quite extensive and the heart has a limited ability to fix itself. Current treatments can restore blood flow and some function to the heart, but they do not repair the damage that was done. That is why new therapies are needed. Biomaterials are being developed that will hopefully be able to prevent the damage that occurs, as well as repair the heart.
Biological tissues and how they change.

The way we use our muscles determines how the tissues associated with our skeleton behave. Bone shape, muscle type, muslce performance and connective tissue properties can all change depending on the mechanical demands you put on your body. How tissues change can affect your overall performance. These changes are called ‘plasticity’ and can help animals adapt to new environments and athletes maximize their performance.
